Any and all animals that are either being shown at San Luis Valley Fair or the Colorado State Fair in a market class, must attend their county weigh-in and tagging day. Please report any lost tags to the Sheep Superintendent as soon as possible and within 48 hours. You will be unable to check-in any animals at either fair without their SLV County tag in place.

Yes! The weight requirements for lambs are that the lamb must be at least 100 pounds and have gained a minimum of 30 pounds from their weigh-in weight. There is no maximum weight limit for market lambs.
Market lambs must be born on or after December 15, 2024.
The ownership deadline for all lambs(breeding & market) to be shown at fair is May 1. This applies to both ownership and possession of the animal. Unless you have filed a lease or off-site boarding agreement with the Extension Office, the animal MUST be at your house and under your full care (not at a breeder's or fitter's), by May 1.
All market lambs checking in for the market show, must have a maximum wool length of 1/2". Lambs that have longer wool than 1/2" will be asked to shear the wool off before being allowed to weigh. Please note that wet or damp lambs will also not be allowed to weigh in until after they are dry.
You are more than welcome to bring in your own bedding to both County and State Fair. Shavings will be available for purchase at County Fair. See the smiling faces in the Fair Office to arrange purchase.
For Colorado State Fair, you will need to pre-order bedding when you enter or bring your own. There are no shavings or bedding available for purchase on site at Colorado State Fair.
Sheep, in both the breeding and market divisions, have the chance to be classified into divisions for a more accurate judging experience.
Divisions include: Pure-bred(AOB), Speckled Face, Natural and Crossbreds. The Crossbred division, for the market show, will also be divided into light, medium and heavy weights. Check the Rule Book for more information on how many animals are required for a division and qualifying characteristics.

Follow this handy guide for a better idea of where you lamb might end up.
The classifiers do have the final decision on how a market lamb classifies.
