Any and all animals that are either being shown at San Luis Valley Fair or the Colorado State Fair in a market class, must attend their county weigh-in and tagging day. Please report any lost tags to the Hog Superintendent as soon as possible and within 48 hours. You will be unable to check-in any animals at either fair without their SLV County tag in place.
Yes! Market Swine have both a minimum and a maximum allowed weight. The minimum weight is 230 pounds and the maximum weight is 300 pounds. Market swine that are under 230 pounds or over 300 pounds will not be allowed to sell and will show in their own division.
Market swine must be born on or after December 15, 2023 to be eligible to show at fair.
The ownership deadline for all goats(breeding & market) to be shown at fair is May 1. This applies to both ownership and possession of the animal. Unless you have filed a lease or off-site boarding agreement with the Extension Office, the animal MUST be at your house and under your full care (not at a breeder's or fitter's), by May 1.
All market swine, during weigh-in, will be classified into breed divisions. Classifications will be made by a three member panel and a 2/3 agreement is needed for each classification.
If you have a purebred animal and you wish to contest your classification, please have your registration papers ready to show the panel. The papers must show the junior's name as the owner to be eligible.
You are more than welcome to bring in your own bedding to both County and State Fair. Shavings will be available for purchase at County Fair. See the smiling faces in the Fair Office to arrange purchase.
For Colorado State Fair, you will need to pre-order bedding when you enter or bring your own. There are no shavings or bedding available for purchase on site at Colorado State Fair.
If any division has more than twenty-four animals in the division, the division will then be subdivided into light, medium and heavy divisions. The champions and reserve champions from the light, medium and heavy divisions will advance to the final drive.
